Freeport mourns Richard Layton
Asst. Chief Richard J.
Layton of the Freeport Fire
Department died Mondajy
morning following a mutual aid fire response in Baldwin,
Chief Layton had responded to the commercial building fire in the neighboring coinmunity and returned home after that. At approximately 7 a.m. following the -fire, Chief Layton had been scheduled for routine surgery, where he died due to a medical emergency prior to the procedure. Our sincere condolences to all affected, especially his wife Jaime, and his family.
Funeral arrangements were unavaiable. at press time. Look to our website for that information.
HIS LAST ALARM: Assistant Chief Layton was annong a group of Freeport firefighters who provided mutual aid on a fire on Grand Avenue, Baldwin, on Sunday.

TOYS FOR TOTS: Baldwin High School seniors DeLasha Gallant and Ivanna Sabala assisted this year's Toys for Toys collection for the holidays, which was coordinated by social worker Anny Frawley and Assistant Principal Linda Kellner. Assemblyman Bob Barra's office provided the collection boxes and picked up the toys for distribution.
