Normally, a state governor doesn't swear in a city mayor, let alone a village head. But Freeport's new mayor, Andrew Hardwick, the first African-American to be elected to the office, received the oath of office a second time Saturday from the state of New York's first African-American governor, David A., Paterson, in grand, ceremony at "the Recreation Center, • ' ~

\ \a crowd estimated at 300 at Village Hall. The April 11 event was the public inauguration ceremony for the rhayor and newly elected trustees Carmen Pineyro, the deputy mayor designate, and Robert Kennedy, deputy mayor, before a audience of invit-
• ed guests and members of the public numbering more than 500.
Among Mr. Kennedy's, activities away from Village Hall, he serves as Coast Guard flotilla commander and branch chief of personnel, responsible for 16,000 personnel along the Eastern Seaboard.

enjoyed learning about daily
life in Ancient Greece and were particularly excited :abo.ut the first. Olympic Games. They read the Olympic oath and participated in a classroom Olympics, vyhich included singing, dis-. cus throw (tossing cotton balls), and wrestling (thumb, of course!). The students were divided by city-states, and the winners posed with hornemade torches, medals and griape-ieaf crowns.
