Freeoort's Mr. Roboto
by Robert L. Harrison
Freeport High School students competed in their fifth straight robotics games at Hofstra University this past weeicend. The students were lead by their teacher advisors, Lorrie Green and Kevin Harrison. The Freeport High School team had to first design and engineer their own robot that could compete at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) SBPLI Long Island Robotics Competition.
Each year, the high school competitors are given a new robot game to challenge with a "problem to solve" along with a kit of parts to assemble and then compete in the robotics regional or international competitions.
This year the Freeport High School students brought along their mascot. The Red Devil, to cheer them on. Besides Freeport High, some other nearby teams were from Baldwin, Oceanside, Uniondale and Roosevelt.

First Precinct is on tlie move!
The First Precinct police are curre*ntly in a 75-year-old building which is in dire need of repair....thanks to the perseverance of Legislator Joseph Scannell in pressing County Executive Tom Suozzi and the presiding officer for a new facility, it will happen.
The First Precinct will be a new, state-of-the-art facility. Legislator Scannell convinced the county executive to keep the precinct in Baldwin, on the main road and close to the high school. Being close to Baldwin High School helps to foster a positive relationship with police and students. The First Precinct is the largest in Nassau

County, serving the most residents. Chief Tony Rocco, who started his 40-year career at the First Precinct as a crossing guard at the intersection where the new facility will be built, said he was happy at the notion the precinct was staying in Baldwin and will be part of the fabric of the Baldwin community. He thanked Legislator Scannell on behalf of the current and past officers of the First Precinct.
The property is currently a shopping center, Rosen Shopping Center, at the Intersection of Grand Avenue and Ethel Kloberg Drive (across from the CVS and adjacent to Baldwin High School).
