WELCOME TO THE WORLD, NICHOLAS ADRIAN NUZZI.
The Leader's First Baby of the Year was born on January 14. This photograph was taken within a day of Nicholas birth. The Nuzzi family lives in Freeport. John Nuzzi Jr., is a wrestling coach for Freeport High School and a graduate. Mrs. Nuzzi's family, the Gaglianos, were longtime Baldwin residents.
Nicholas Adrian Nuzzi is First Baby of tlie Year

The name Nicholas is of Greek origin and means "victorious people."
For Antonella and John M. Nuzzi Jr., of Freeport it also happens to be the chosen name for their son who is The Leader's First Baby of the Year.
Nicholas Adrian Nuzzi was born on January 14 at 4:21 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre.
Most certainly the Nuzzi family feels "victorious" over the birth of their bouncing baby boy.
Just ask grandfather John Nuzzi, Sr., who told The Leader his grandson was "just great! They say he looks like a Nuzzi," he said proudly. "He is a quiet baby but loves to eat and is up to nine pounds." Nicholas was seven pounds, 15 ounces at birth.
Nicholas' mother, Antonella, also told The Leader her baby boy "is quiet. He only cries when he wants to eat, about every two hours during the day and closer to three [hours] at night. But he's getting smarter. He whines a little when he wants to be cuddled. As soon as you do

that, he goes right to sleep. My husband really looks forward to coming home at night to cuddle with him. They both love all the cuddling."
Nicholas is the grandson of Patricia and John M. Nuzzi Sr. of Freeport and Christina and Edgar Gagliano of Massapequa (formerly of Baldwin). The baby's father, John M. Nuzzi Jr., is a graduate of Freeport High School as well as a wrestling coach at Freeport High School.
Nicholas is the Nuzzis' second child. They also have a little girl named Gabriella Gianna, now 18 months old. This big sister loves to "be a part of everything. She wants to kiss and hug him. She's very bossy right now. She's also getting a lot of attention from my mother and the rest of the family," said Antonella.
John Nuzzi, Sr. said "on Sunday, I played with Antonella and brought her a few trinkets and toys. After she opened her presents [and some of her brother's, said Antonella] I held my grandson for a while. Well, actually I had the two of them in my lap. It's wonderful, really

wonderful."
The baby was just about on time. "He was one day early," said Antonella, adding that all in all the ordeal of the birth was "as good as it could be."
John Sr. said "we were supposed to go to dinner in Massapequa and they called and said, 'We can't get there.' Antonella was having contractions. The following morning we got the call and there he was, little Nicholas. I have been taking photos galore."
Back to the name.
Nicholas seems to be a family favorite. Antonella said "Nipholas has always been my favorite name, ever since I was a little girl. In Argentina, where I was bom, the name Adrian [Nicholas' middle name] is very popular for boys.
"My husband wanted Lucca for a middle name and we went back and forth. Finally we wrote both names on slips of paper and put them [the paper] in a glass cup and let our little girl pick the name. So, Gabriella decided it would be Adrian."
John Sr. said he also "loved the name

Nicholas. I had an uncle named Nicholas, so it's nice to have the name back in the family." But, he cautioned that his grandson was not named after his uncle.
Still it is an illustrious name. Nicholas has been the name of several emperors and popes as well as the composer Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov and the political philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli. Who knows? Perhaps Nicholas Nuzzi will grow up to be a leader among men, a philosopher or an artist. One thing is certain, he is very much loved by his family for just being little Nicholas!
Congratulations to the Nuzzi and Gagliano family.
As The Leader's First Baby of the Year the Nuzzi family will receive the following gifts: a gift certificate for Mom from June Peters; a bottle of champagne for Mom and Dad from Atlantic Bayview Wines & Liquors; a blooming gift basket from Atlantic Nursery; a $25 gift certificate from Vincente Jewelers, two dozen doughnuts from Dunkin' Donuts and a one-year subscription from The Freeport-Baldwin Leader.
