Nautical Mile to celebrate the holidays
It's the most wonderful time of the year and this weekend. December 2 and 3, is chock full of holiday happenings on the Nautical Mile. On Saturday. December 2. be at the Esplanade for the tree decorating beginning at 4 p.m. followed by the 6 p.m. CLUoling cniise on the Miss Freeport and Captain Lou. Stay put for the boat parade that follows!
Then on Sunday, December 3, enjoy breakfast with Santa on the Nautical Princess at 10:30 a.m. A magic show at the Esplanade is at 2 p.m. followed by a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and balloon artist. The weekend will be topped off with the Nautical Lights Parade beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Library consolidations on the horizon?

To consolidate or not to consolidate, that is the question that Nassau Countx' libraries, including Freeport mid B;i]dwin. ma_\' fiice if Nassau County Executive Thomiis Suozzi's consolidation blueprint is given the go-ahead.
Freeport's libran board of trustees voted to pass a resolution in opf)osition of consolidation. "The strength of our libran' is in community control and suppon," said Dave Opatow, librar.' director, who opposes libn^- consolidation.
Baldwin's library- board of trustees
also passed a resolution opposing consolidation on October 24. "We feel that a local library- reflects the culture and aspirations of each communitj'. If you have a countj'wide system you c^an't have the shame type of service. You can't have the same level of responsiveness," said Maria Sysak, Bald\\in's libnuy director. "How-would you do this?"
County Executive Suozzi. at a forum held in Juh'. opened discussion on the idea of consolidating municipal senices including libraries. The idea would he to review if a single count)'-w ide librar}^ system, similar to those in (continued on page 8)
