STAR rebate applications mailed
Acting New York State Commissioner of Taxation aad Finance Barbara G. Billet announced that the Tax Department has mailed letters to homeowners in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, providing them with information on how to apply for their 2007 Middle Class STAR Rebate check and receive the full program benefit.
The mailing began Monday, September 24, with approximately 562,000 notices to STAR-eligifaie homeowners reminding them of iihe need to apply. The mailing to hom^eowners in tiitese counties conlifiBed through October 3.
"Governor Spitzer's Middle Qass STAR program is a $13 biftion tax cut. the largest in state history, and specifically targeted to
middle class homeowners whtrc il provides much-seeded help lo senior citizens and hard-working famiites. it is mcome-based, so those who need it most will receive the largest benefit," Acting Commissioner Billet said.
"In striving to make a regressive propei^ tax system more progressive, we're prtivi^-ing more relief to those with the least ;M&-ty to pay. With this added fairness comes the additional responsibility of filling out a form, and oiu- department worked meticulously to create a process that was simpte and fast for families to receive their checks," Commissioner Billet said.
