Boxing Director and PAL President Joe Higgins and Coach Bernie Lenahan posed with the athletes of Freeport P.\L Boxing at the new center located in Northeast Park.
The Grand Opening event took place last month, with a number of supporters and participants in attendance, including Mayor Bill Glacken. Trustees Don Miller and Bill White. Jr.. along with state Senator Charles Fuschillo. Jr., state .Assemblyman David McDonough, counrj' Legislator Dave Denenberg. as well as several coaching directors, PAL staff, and the family and friends of the youngsters
in the program.
"Without Mayor Glacken and his staff's full support, these virtuous lessons would not exist," explained Joe Higgins. "The donation of time and support for this program improves the quality of life for these young people and benefits the whole community. Thank you so much for caring," he concluded.
The P.AL boxing program boasts a number of amateur champions since 1997, including the Golden Gloves and U.S. Championships. .All eyes are on the Olympics in Bejing in 2008.

Nassau County has passed two
pieces of legislation that aim to
improve air quality by reducing
emissions from dieseLengines. The
Idling Ordinance, which is now in
effect, limits engine idling for motor vehicles, trucks, buses and school buses.
The second piece of legislation is called the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Bill and requires all Nassau County vehicles to use cleaner ultra-low sul fur diesel instead of traditional diesel fuel.
At the state level. Governor George Pataki also signed legislation to reduce emission from heavy-dut> diesel vehicles owned, operated or leased by the state, by requiring the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel (continued on page 3)
