Freeport Fire Department Captain Scott Braur., Robert Weltner, Leon Tucholski, Richard Laudman Jr., Anthony Arroyo, Daniel Cangialosi and Richard Layton took the latest addition to the Freeport FD, a 2006 26-foot Boston Whaler with a 450-horse-
power engine, out on its first shakedown cruise on Saturday.
The Marine Unit of the Freeport FD, which is responsible for manning the new boat, is run by the Underwater Search and Rescue Squad. The boat is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics
such as radar and GPS, as well as equipment for medical emergencies. The new boat will also be used as a platform for the divers of the dive team.
This unit is activated for all water rescues. On board the boat is a water
pump capable of pumping 550 gallons per minute, which could be used to supply land-based units as well as operating when extinguishing boat fires or bay area grass fires.
