cooperation!
Elementary school children frequently play with crayons, but one day this spring at the Leo F. Giblyn School, some students became crayons!
The Dual Language class of Diana Frohman, who teaches Spanish, and Noreen Larson, who teaches English, donned shirts and cones in various colors to perform in an^ original musical production focusing on working together. The production,
part of the school's character education program, was performed for all grades at Giblyn and also for classes from other Freeport schools.

Sanitation Q & A
Questions asked Commissioners and Chairman of the Board Gerard W. Brown, Sanitary District Two, Baldwin, South Hempstead and Roosevelt:
Should the present Sanitary Districts be dissolved?
Commissioner Brown reminded those in attendance that this proposal was brought to the public as well as the Town Board some years ago. He said it was the decision of the impartial investigators that the dissolving of the special district would not serve in the best interest of the taxpayers nor would it result in fewer taxes to the homeowners in the district.
"As time and situations change so do the needs of the taxpayers, and I will explore the benefits and shortfalls of such a move," stated Mr. Brown. The "new board" of Sanitary Commissioners are restructuring the Sanitary District. This restructuring started more then two years "ago with goals to limit increases in taxes, yet still provide the same exceptional service he added. Agreement has been made with the employees and their union to a one-year extension of their contract for 2005 while efforts continue to rationalize manpower through attrition as well as increase productivity on the routes. The rank and file has been extremely cooperative and joins the board in efforts to maintain
the service provided by District 2.
Commissioner Brown cautioned the homeowners and commercial occupants of the district not to be misled by the small group of people who are "shooting from the hip" to dissolve the district. He specifically referred to the claims that there would be "no layoffs and the service would remain the same. "Layoffs would occur that would be catastrophic to the many families that make their living at District 2. Many families in Roosevelt, Baldwin and South Hempstead would be devastated by this move, dictating that a responsible and thorough investigation should be conducted first," he said.
"There is no question that the service would not remain the same. The re-cycling, compost, special pick up, code enforcement and curbside pickup would change drastically resulting in, reduced quality of life in our district," Mr. Brown cautioned. Is consolidation of the special districts, water, sanitation, fire and schools, a good thing?
"Bigger government is not necessarily better government," said Mr. Brown. The scores of people I have spoken to in the past five •years have expressed concern that the unincorporated towns such as Baldwin, South Hempstead and Roosevelt have little or no say in government. It seems to many that the villages like Rockville Centre, Garden City
