After a prolonged hearing and a
conference of interested parties, the
Village Board at Its meeting Monday
night adopted a modified type
• of buffer area to protect residential
projSerty from abutting business districts
in the rear and side. As originally
proposed this area would
have had to be ten feet In depth,
with a link fence from 6 to 10 feet
in lieight on the boundary line
separating, covered by ivy and a
landscaping. After the conference a
recommendation was made that the
area be reduced to five feet, with
all tlie other features and he applicable
to all rasidentlHl districts

James Ward, 90, Hit

In Serious Condition
James Ward. .90, who lived alone
in a rooming bouse at 42 smith
street, and who was run down at
South Grove and Smith streets,
Monda/evening at 6:36 o'clock was
fighting for his Ufe In the Meadow-brook
Hospital, Unlondale, as The
Leader went to press yesterday
(Wednesday) afternoon. The car
that hit him was operated, according
to the police, by William Jensen,
62, 6S Spprtsmans avenue. He was
not held.
No one witnessed the accident so
the police have no accurate description
of what took place. People
living i n (he vicinity, however, report
that thfe sounidi of the machine
hitting the aged man was as loud
as If -two cars had crashed.

Mrs. Mabel E. Heincr of Miller avenue, honorary vlce-jH-
esidoiit of the Frtieport Republican Club and chairman of
its annual Women's Luncheon, a County-wide affair, was
appointed a member of the Advisory Council of the Long
Island Agriciiltural and Technical Institute at FariAiugdale
by Governor Thomas E. Dewe^ before he left office at the
end of the year. This, was one of the Governor's final acts.
