canals during the summer season.
- The Village's current austerity,
budget will not allow fbr.the hiring of -
summer. laborers, for that chore this
year, officials said. A commercial
cleanup boat, which the Mayor and

DeZarate saw demonstrated in Glen
Cove recently, would cost $1,000 a'

Voters last week approved by a
margin of 288 votes the Freeport
School Disuict's 1990-91 budget of
$54,594318. Of 1468 voles cast on the
school budget, 928 were in favor and
640 were opposed.
Following the passage of the budget,
which carries an esdmated tax rate of
$35,435 per $100 of assessed valuation.
for the coming school year, Freeport
Superintendent of Schools Doris Selub
stated, "We are gratified that
Freepotters have again voted to support
a budget proposal which combines cost
effectiveness with a sound educational
program. Their support demonstrates
recognition of our goal of providing for
the needs of our students while being
concerned about the economic
difTiculties facing all of us at this time."
The unopposed candidacies of two

By a 429 vote margin, residents also
approved the Freeport Memorial .
Library's - 1990-91 budget of
$2,432,810 representing an increase of
14 cents per $100. Of 1,482 votes cast
on the Library budget, 951 were'in
favor and S31 against
