Arts Council puppet show
A classic tale of mystery and
mirth. "Rip Van Winkle." wiU be
pcrfomied by Das Puppenspiel
Puppet Theatre Wednesday,
December 28, at 11 a.m. at Bay-view
Avenue School.
The event is sponsored by the
Arts Council at Freeport and is
part of the Council's series of special
vacation shows. Das Puppenspiel,
known for their "exquisitely
crafted characters," will
present the story of the lazy New
Yorker with hand and rod
. puppets.
Tickets are $3 per person and
may be obtained at the Arts
Council office at the Freeport
Recreation Center. Group rates
are also available. For more

The annual Kwanzaa Celebration
of Thanksgiving will feature
African dancers and singers, a
candle lighting ceremony and
poetry and songs at the African-
American Museum at 110 North
Franklin Street, He&pstead, on
Monday. December 26 from 1:30
to 4:30 p.m. Kwanzaa is a Swabili
word meaning "first fruits."
Celebrating the harvest of the
first fruits is traditional all over
Africa and has been adopted by
African-Americans as a time to
celebrate the joys of Hvingand the
fruits of our labor of the past
year.
The highlight of the celebra-tiob
will be a performance by the
'dance company of Diiiizulii and
his African' dancers; drummers
and singers. The candle lighting
ceremony of Thanksgiving will
be lead by Steven Lloyd, a community
leader who is also a Nigerian
priest Seven candles representing
the "seven Principles" will
be Ut.
Poetry and songs by James
Lacey, and Ann Taylor, will
round out the program. Admission
