FHS Class of '88 to graduate Sunday
The Freeport High School
Class of 1988 hu received
numerous scholarships and
awards, as an expected 44S
seniors prepare for their Sunday,
June 26, Commencement
ceietnonies.
As of this date, nearly two-thirds
of the Senior Class plan to
go on to higher education next
year. The senior* have accumn-lated
over S6SO,000 in scholarships
as they near Commencement.
Major financial awards

to Cooper Union, a fuB scholarship
to Rice University, M well as
an appointment to West Point

Our Holy Redeemer Church on
Monday, June 13. at 8 p.m:
The graduation was the final
formal ceremony of Monsignor
Mattel^ pastorate at OHR. He
assumed his new. position as pastor
of St. Matthew's Church, Dix'
Hillt. on June 16. Father Matthew
Leavy, who is now the new
pastor of Our Holy Redeemer,
deiivcred the commencement
address, and Monsignor Mattei
delivered his farewell address to
the class.
James Lemyre was presented
' the KHOOU award for general
excellence and spoke for the
graduates.
Other awards' had been presented
by Sister Eileen Griffin,
principal, at a Communion
breakfast for graduates and their
families held in OHR School^

At the breakfast James Lemyre
received the award for outstanding
Khotastie ability given by the
Archbishop MoUoy Councti of
the Knighu of Colnmbu*. and
lilian Umana was awarded the
Rt. Rev. Eugene J. Crawford
Memorial for Christian
Leadership.
Gina Lombardi won the Language
Arts award pven by Court i
Stella Maris 822. Catholic
Daughters of the Americas;
James Lemyre, the Mathematics
award pven i^ the Holy Name
Society, Paul Cervini, the OHR
School Auxiliary's Science
Award; and John Kelly, the
OHR School Auxiliary^ Social
Studies award. The Miitie award
given in memory of Howard
Rasmutsen went to Dawn Hoyt
'and the Art award to Yvonne
Rosa. Una Castro received the
Health award given in honor of
Msgr. Saverio C. Mattie,
Michael O'DriscoU and Lilian
Umana were presented the Physical
Education award, and John
Kelly, the Attendance tward.
Members of the eighth grade
received their class medals from
their. advisers, Josephine Caro-.
liid and Kathleen Brnliof.
Two prizes in the local art contest
sp^isored by-Court Stella
Maris of the Catholic Daughters
of, the Ameripas were. WPJ>. by
Nghth graders • Josefina Aguero,
second place, and Elana Roy,
third.
Several eighth graden had .
been in the first kindergarten
class to graduate from OHR
School in 1980 and had received
their kindergarten diplomas from -
the then Father Mattei. The
graduates who had been in the
school for the eight years that
Monsignor Mattei was pastor of
Our Holy Redeemer included

On Sunday, June 26, at 2 p.m.,
about 400 students wil be graduated
from Baldwn Seiuor High
School. The ceiemonies wffl be
held at the athletic field at the
school
The valedictorian of the class
of 1988 WiU be Todd LoweU Pit-tipsky,
and the salutatorian will
be Karen Audrey Bronzo.
Mr. Pittinsky will attend Yale
in the fall, and Miss Bronzo will
attend Georgetown.
The invocation and benediction
will be given by the Reverend
Charles G. Aekerson, the interim
rector of the All Saint's Episcopal
Church in Batdwin.
About 88 percent of the gra-

duating da** plan to further their
education. About S2 percent of
those continuing will attend four-,
year coUeget or uniyerntie*. 34
percent wfi attend two-year college*
and two percent will attend
technical or busness schools. Of
the remaining 12 percent, one
percent are going to enter the
armed forces and It percent plan
to enter the work force.
In case of rain, the ceremonies
will be held indoors. If the rain '
starts after the ceremonies have
begun, the outdoor ceremonies
will end and the diidomas will
immediately be given to the
graduates in assigned rooms in
the building. .
