Freeport and Baldwin say 'no' to drugs
Freeport marches in
anti-drug abuse parade
The "Freeport Sayi NO to
Drugs",parade will tegjn at-lOv
a.m. on SatuSIay, Ndvieiabcr 14.
The parade date was
announcod by Freeport Mayor
Dorothy Storm and Freeport
Advisory Task Force On Drugs
Chajiman Tedd Levy. The Task
Force is sponsoring the parade
after last year's w u cancelled due
to bad weather. This year's event
has a November 1S rain date.
The parade is dedicated to the
memory of the late James Rid-dick.

Over 2,000 paraders are
expected to march from Oodd
Junior High School, Pine Street
and Guy Lombardo Avenue,
west along Merrick Road, to the
Freeport High School on South
Brookside Avenue. At the high
school a short program will be
held at the George Emma Memorial
Field. Spectators are invited
to lice Merrick Road and then
, proceed^to the high school.

at Baldwin SvH.S.

Fourteen professional athletes
were at Baldwin SHS on Monday,
November 2, to partidpale
in the Peer Leadership "87 Program
which ispartoftheAthletes
Helping Athletes (AHA) project.
AH A is a not-for-profit company
which has developed a series of
huinan resources programs for
athletes and coaches at all levels.
To conduct these programs, they
recruit and tr^n active and
retired professional and high profile
amateur athletes who work
with their professional staff. In
addition, they recruit and train
selected college and high school
student athletes to panicipate in
presentatiom directed to high
school, jum'ot high school' and
elementary students^
Baldwin Senior High School
hosted the Peer Leadenhip "87
program, inviting students, itafT
and admnlstrators from all 5S
Nassau County high schools. 47
.school districts responded. The
purpose of the day was to explain

Winners of Freeport Schools anti-drug poster contest announced
Winners of the Freeport Public
Schools drug abuse prevention
poster contest were selected on
Friday. Two tnnners from each
grade level K-12 were selected
from each school. Judges were
TMd toy from Operation Pride,
Mariaime Endo of the Freeport
drug abuse prevention task force.
Chamber of Commerce past president
Dora Fhiilips, and Ellen
KSicas, youth counselor at the
Atkinson School. The contest
coordinator was Raymond Johnson,
art supervisor for the Free-port
Schools.
