BALDWIN - Members of the staff of the Baldwin
School District, who will be retiring, will be honored by
. the Baldwin Board of Education at its June 10 meeting
at the Senior High School. '
On the administrative level, John Fitzsimmons is retiring
as principal", of
Baldwin Junior Hiigh
•School; John O'Connor as
principal of Milburn.
Retirements of supervisory
personnel are Jerome
Bass (business) at the senior
high school, Andrew
Thompson, Jr. (social
studies) at the junior liigh.
Teachers retiring are

an English teacher at the
Senior High; Beatrice
Corrarino, Plaza; Aileen

Caused Slaying
FREEPORT - When
Kevin 'Vollmer was shot to "
death early Monday
moraingv- May .11,-as, he
left a Roosevelt co'iive-nience
store, police described
the slaying as an
"apparent robbery ' attempt"
Vollmer, 38, a Freeport
resident and a delivery
.man for Newsday, had
just collecte'd the receipts
from the' Stop and Shop
store on Babyloa Turnpike
at 8:47 am, when he was
killed by the one shot in
. his face.
This past Tuesday, May
26, however, police arrested
Keith Green, 30, of
49 Hausch Boulevard,
Roosevelt, for allegedly
shooting 'Vollmer. because
the slain victim, reportedly
a cocaine user, owed
him several hundred dol-.
lars for drug purchase.
• Green, an unemployed
construction worker, was
already,behind bars when
police arrested him for
Vollmer's murder. He had
been arrested on May 12
during a drug sweep in
Roosevelt' and held since
that time, on charges of
third degree sale and
posession of cocaine, at
Nassau County Correctional
Center.
Vollmer, who had
worked for Newsday for
nine years, was an ex-

FREEPORT - The Village's "Nautical Mile," Wood-cleft
Avenue, is gearing up for its second Annual
Freeport Festival, which will be held there,Saturday and
Sunday, June 6 and 7, 12 noon to 9 pm both days.
With Woodcleft Avenue partially closed to traffic,
strollers along the "'mile-long
street will be offered
a host of activities for the
entire family. .
One highlight will be
cruises of local waters
aboard the Captain Lou
III, which will leave the
Poop Deck Restaurant on
the hour every hour between
3 and 9 pm at a
cost of S2 for adults and
$1 : for children.. Pony
rides for children will be
offered at'SI along side
Fiore's Fish Market.
A free, on-going junior
fishing coittest will be
held it Lou's Fishing Station
with prizes for all..
The Freeport Historical
Society will host a Crafts
Show and Sale on the
grounds of Lake's 'Yacht
Sales.
Island. Scuba will exhibit
relics from local' shipwrecks
and show underwater
films of local fish
life.
