Creative Statioiis Office and local community groups. -
During 19S7, the plan will .bring murals, landscaping
and liistofic works to 14
Long Island Rail Road
(LIRR), Transit Authority
and Metro-North Coni-muter
Railroad stations.
In the program, the
MTA contributes as much
as S5,000 to each project
as long as the . sponsor
matches the amount.
Baldwin^ on the LlRR's
Babylon Branch,in Nassau
Coutity, is- sponsored by
the Beautiful Baldwin
Fund. •
Two other LIRR stations
were selected: Malverne '
'and Laurelton..
Wendy Feuer, director
of Arts for Transit, said:
. The responses we rcr
'ceived from, .community,
groups were terrific, particularly
because it showed
us that people certainly
care about the stations in
their area and were eager
to join us in trying to improve
their transit environment.
Creative Stations is part
of the MTA's Arts for
Transit Office..
The 14 selected projects
for 1987 were- chosen
from over 70 applicanls.
Panelists considered the
quality of the ' projects,
community involvement,
innovative ideas, and station
location when reviewing
proposals. Most of
the subway • station projects
involve murals, while
the commuter railroads
