BALDWIN - A 54-year-old wonun died in a house {ire Thursday
night, September 6, caused apparently by smoking in bed.
According to Nassau County police ofiicials, the fire, at 1460 Forest
Avenue, Baldwin, was spotted by a neighbor at attout 8:20 pro. Observ­ing

Plan For Shopping Area

Monday evening, September 10, as they convinced the Village
Board cf Trustees to deny a charge of zoning application that would al-

note of the incidence of
loitering and drtig telling that
occur near such small stores.
In making the presentation
for the applicant, honever,
attorney Gene Schaffcr called
the stores better than vacant
lots, which "become dumping
sites for the entire ariea." Schaf-fer
maintained that Ibc lots had
been vacant for many years
and could not be developed as
residential.
Schaffcr also pointed out that
local shopping would benefll the
people of the area. When asked,
