FREEPORT - Rumors of an
impending sale of Lydia E^ Han
Hospital, located on West
Mem(^ Road' in Freepott,
became even more widespread
this week.
Hospital administrator Sheldon
Klahr confirmed that the hospital's
owner. Dr. Cari Neuman,
was "prone to seD at the right
price. Neuman, Klahr explained;
is presently in Europe.
The Nsssaa-Snfiotk Health
Systems Agency recently sng-
^sted and apparently approved
the sale of Lydia E. Hall, and two
oilier privately owned Long Island
hospitals:
Klahr said that the. repdft was

three difierent sets of doctors —

the doctors are wcnking in
different directions, one- told
THE LEADER they aU are interested
in saving the hospital,
in keeping it open for the cdm-mnnily,
rather than in making
a profit.
Klahr, however, while cbnfiRn-ing
that some bf the doctors were
considering buying the hospiul,
said no one has called or met with
Dr. Neuman.
According to Klahr, mmon are
true that the Diagnostic Center
on Hanse .Avenue, bought by
Neuman some time back for
possible use as -a kidney dialysis
/ center, has been sold to a manufacturing
firm.
• Howeveri the former Christian
Science Church on Mereick Road,
. also bought by Neuman, is still
owned by the doctor and is
presently being used by the
hospital, primarily for storage;
FREEPORT -.Twas the week before Christmas and all through.

FREEPORT • The village Building
Department's weekend tour
of Wooddefl Avenue fish markets
imcovered only one violation this
past Saturday and Sunday,
December .17-18.
Accompanied by Building
Inspector John McKeown and
Freeporl Police Officer Howard
Hartman, Snpl. of Buildings
Mike Ruiz De Zarate gat-e a
snmmoos to the owner of the
boat, "St. Peter," for selling fish
from the'dock Sunday.
Also checked, but with no
viobtioos found, were Ctpf.
Accar£ng to both "sides," —
employer and employee' — the
Jong negotiations between the
village and the Ovil Service^
Employees Assodation (CSEA)
have ended.
' CSEA president Robert Ford
confirmed this week that his
membership had met and voted
yes to a package whidi included a
three year contract. Employees,
in years one through nine. Ford '
said, win get a tune percent
increase.— indusrre of increment
— in each of the three
-yors of the contract. Ten year, or-more,
employees, who do not get
increments, willrecsive six per-
~ cent increases in each of the three
years.
According to Ford, his organization
also won approval for an
agency shop. Presently 181 of the
approximately 230 village employees
are members of the local
. barguning unit. AU, except the
confidential employees, win now
hare to join. Fad estimates that
this will inoease the membership
of iSi organization by about"
•W.
- Ford s^d the new contract win
also include the Ovil Service Protection
Clanse whidi win afford
the same protection to employees
who did not take a dvQ service
examination as to those who
&i. This danse would primarily
affect armed setvies veterans ft»
whom tests are often waived.
According' to Mayor William
H. White, the village's confirmation
of the contract is just a legal
' formality. Special attorney for the
village, Robert Sweeney, has
been asked to draw up the
contract and. White said, the
Board of Trustees would then
authorize him, as Mayor, to sign
it. The salary increases would be
in effect retroactively as of
Mardi 1,1983
The employees of the village's
electrical utility, who bargamed
separaldy, wiU also receive
increases-of six-siz-six for three
years, less than parity with
LILCO, for' which they, were
negotiating. However, the raises,
winild be retroactive to March 1.
Another ^giiKip to probably
receive an increase this year b
the vfflage's eleded officials: the '
Mayor and the four viUage
trustees. The (full time) mayor's
present salary of S47.250 win be'
increased by 6% to S50,085 while
the part-time trustees' salaries
win go from .16,825 each to
S7,234. Salary Increases, whkb
will be part of the.annual budget
hearing to be held on January 9,
would go into effect — once
approved by the Village Board
along with the budget'— on
March 1. 1984. at the beginning
of the village's fiscal year.
Wlnle the proposed budget
itself has not yet been released.
While told THE LEADEB this
week that the tax increase^' looks
like 30*. Last year's lax increase
was 98*.'

A final group of village employees,
the members of the
village's pdice department, win
' not find any presents gndemeath
the mnnidpal Christmas tree, at
least not yet.
According to PBA president
Jack Kilbride the two^ sides win
be g ^ g into binding'arbitration
"any time now." Noting that the
CSEK came out of its negoiia-lions
with a three year contrad.
Kilbride said the police wcnld
come out with a two year one. .
Kilbride also noted .that the
police had txeen working without
a Contrad since Marehl. -
"Salary has something to do
with it," KUbtide affirmed, bui
he also mentioned that the
department was short on manpower,
carrying 76 rather than
