Baldwin Library Expansion
Plans Updated
by Joan Delaney
BALDWIN - During this past month, the Baldwin Library Board of
Trustees has met three times, twice with its aicliitect Ronald Goodman.
At one of these meetings, the library's Citizens Committee on Expansion
was present to ask questions and to stud;f the proposed plans.
At a meetmg on Wednesday, January 12, with' Goodman and Iiis
associate,-Hardd Olsen.thetti^.
braiy Board appri>ved thehiring
of Stephen H. Falk aiiil As- '
sociaies, a firm which specializes
in. providing estimates for more
accurate cost projections. The
board expressed its satisfaction
with the proposed plans subject
to receiving comments from the
citizens' coihmittee. • '
On Tuesday, February 18. the
Library Board met with five meroi
bersbf the citizens commi|tee. itt*
cludiiig its chairman Ralph Cala-brcse.
At that time the committee
members were able to isk ques- -
tions regarding the proposed
plan. ' According to' Calabtese
the membei3,,idt]i.the exception
of Al Earn who is opposed to the
scope of the expansion, seemed to
react with "general assent" to
the proposal after approximately

a children's area, a larger community
room on the fust ikxn
incl. quiet space, and pwte efficient
storage and cataloging of
the various types of library materials
including books, magazines
and aodio-visual nuterials.
Calabrese said that the.bas'U:
quest'ioir seems to be "bow much
do yoiswant to offer?" For those
who see the role of the:library
asmore than a collection of
books, the need for expansion appears
- obvious. The expansion
would occur in the eastern portion
of the library and be three levels
— basement, first and second
Clevelaiid Avenne building. Ap-
-pointments to. the task force,'
which will be beaded by school '
superintendent Dr. John Bier- '
wirth, have not yet been made.
The reorganization plan also
schedules all first thttxigh fourth
graders, some of whom liow at-

to be located in the Archer,

were asked regarding other pos- .

that the expansion would be foel
