In Federal Funds
WASHINGTON. D'.C - The
Village of Freeport has been
awarded a SI13,0S0 grant bom
the U.S. Department of Hooang
and Uiban Development, to be
used to rehabilitate Martin Lnther
King Park on Steveiu Street.
The award, which was made
ander the Urban Ftrk Kecreatian
and Development Frogiam, was
announced jointly by Congressmen
' Norman Lent and Ray
McGrath and Senator Al
D'Amato.
"These foods wiH hdp male

for funilies, senior riliims and
young-people.*' said McGrath.
Lent and D Amato in their statement.
The grant win be suppleaented
by S19,9S0 fai state fonds to cover
the cost of improvements to the
park totalling S 133,000.
Among the proposed proiects
are the planting of trees and
hedges to screen the recreation il
acthrities bom the residentiil
area; resurfacing two basketball'
courts and rehabiHtating the
handball court; installatioa of test
rooms and rehabiOtitioo at the
pavifion; and creation of a landscaped
sitting area dedgned for
senior dtizens and a pioik area

The Martin Lothei. King Park
was rstihlithed in 1968 as a
memorial to the slain civil tigjits
leader.
