them?" they asked.

ecoiwmic return from the Speedway,
many of whom — along
with thcifMerrickmeighbors —
had been complaining about noise
pollution.
"Even if it's not sold." said
White, "we are go'mg to dose it
down." .

Mcnee of Freeport Auto Rirts,
asked wlat type of development
would be sought for the land.
White' replied he assumed it
would be commercial, although
it..was conceivable that someone'
might want to put up a condominium
in an industrial area.
If a non-commerdal use for
the ten acre property was sought.
Whhe explained.the'land would
have to be rezoneid.
In order for the viUage to seH
the property, which is used for
recreational purposes, state permission
is needed and this is
presently being sought.
The property was originally
acquired by the viUage in 1929
for "park and aihletic purposes."
Since that time, the area has
changed, with the Sudium now
