BALDWIN - At the July 1 organizational meeting of the Baldwin
board of Education, Superintendent RoUand Jones announced that the
school district was "close to closure" on the lease of one vacant
building and the~$ale of anoither. By law, Jones noted, the sale of a
building must be brought to the voters for their approval. Prior to that,
however, the district . must
present as thorough a view, as
possible of all the legalities,
finances and ramifications of
the sale. Jones-^^said that the
Board hoped that the disposal
of any property would result in
money for the district and that
its use would be "a benefit and
not a deterrent to the community."
which would also put .the
property back on the tax roles.
He said, however, that not air
of these goals can occur with all
of the properties.
The community wouM see
"dramatic results over the
summer as soon as the legal
aspects are worked out," Jones
added. Prior to the required
referendum, Jones explained
there would be "adequate
opportunity to probe, examine,
discuss and frame a community
