to 5 pm. The Festival, which replaces the Freeport Chamber of Commerce's
annual Toyland Parade, is being co-spons6red1s;
Recreation Department and the Chamber of Commerce,

Santa Claus will spend the afternoon
at.the Center.talking with
the children.He will-be accompanied
by Mrs. Merry Christmas

' An opportunity to see how the
holidays are spent in Sweden will
be provided by the Freeport
Meadowbrook Scandinavian Society.
The group, which meets at
the Freeport Memorial Ubrary.
has arranged for the Long Island
Vasa Folk Dancers, -^and its
children's unit, the Junior Wings,
to perform the traditional dances
and songs of Lucia Day, the
begtilning of the holiday season in
Sweden. Swedish custom calls for
a young giri of the family to be
diosen to portray Saint Loda.
Dressed in white with' a crown of
•Egfated candlrs and accompamed
by yoonger girls dimlarily
dressed, she goes from room to
'mora handing out sweets. This
•ceremony will be duplicated in
theCenter'agymnasium. Tbepro-gram
will begin at 2 pm. Children
in the audience will be invited
to participate in the hour and a
half of dance and song. At the
conclusion, punch, coffee and
Swedish pastries will be "served.
Among the other highlights of
the day, weather permhting, will
be free ice skating for all ages
from noon to 2 pm. A limited
number of rental skates will be
available at no cost but skaters
are ad^-tsed to bring their own if
possible.
A.barbershop quartet will aba
be on hand throughout the
afternoon, while the senior dfi^
zens of the Center will offer for
sale handcrafts, plants and homemade
foods in the Senior Lounge, -
from ixxm to 5pm. '^
The Hdiday Festival will end
with the playing pf Christmas
Cands by memi>ers of the Free-port
Fire Department Band in the
Ccnter'slobby. -

Lillian Glaser
FREEPORT - A Funeral Mass
will be celebrated Wednesday
evening, December S, for longtime
Freeport resident Lillian
Glaser. Mrs. Glaser, who had
been a charter member and past-.
president of the Freeport Historical
Society, died November 19 of
.cancer, at South Nassau Communities
Hospital.
The Mass for the 86 year old
former publisher, who had M^ed
that at her death her body be
donated to the Cornell Medical
Unhrersity. will be celebrated by
the Bev.- Marc.Olhrer at the

Freeport Historical Society and
Museum. Mrs. Glaser was a past
president of the Friends of the
Freeport Memorial Ubrary. A
former publisher of" children's
books, she alwap maintahied her
interest in the field- Active in the
Nassau County Historical Society
as wen as the local one, she continued
to attend all their meetings
until she became ill.
. Mrs. Glaser first came to Frec-
• port i i her early teens. Bom in
SayviUe, she moved here and
lived with a cousin, Mrs. Charles
Mack, to shorten the commuting
into New York City .according to a
' teenage friend. Mrs. .Kfanorie
Wallace, a resident of this village.

our early teens," Mrs. Wallace

FREEPORT • Proposals for the use of the funds derived from the sale
of the Two Guys Department Store were outlined by Community
Development Agencv director Eric Hemphill at the last VlUagc Board
of Trustees meeting Monday night. November 26.
Hemphill noted that the proposal was based upon a public hearing
held the week before, recommendations
of' the • Community
Development Task Force and a
meeting of -the Community
Development Citizens . Committee.

Later Petemana explained that he
was "botheted about intensifying
the frustrations" of the waterfront
people who had made their
