FREEPORT • A West Hempstead real estate broker has had hU
license revoked by the New York Sutc SecreUr>- of State, In a decision
which made mention of racial steering in several Long Island areas
including Freeport.

FREEPORT - A fire early Thursday morning. September 27, resulted
in damage to the second floor of a four family dwelling, three victims of
smoke inhalation and the arrest of a 32 year old Freeport man for
allegedly picking the pockets of fire fighters at the scene.
The early morning series of events began about 12:30 am when a
series of calls sent both police and
Freeport's volunteer fire fighters
to the house at 50 Harding Place
Early reports to the fire
department described several
residents stranded on a roof;
With the possibilty of a major
rescue attempt, a maximum of
men responded alon^ with the
snorkel and hook and ladder
But the three — 25 year old
Gloria Bell, four year old Anthony
Bell and Natasha Chancy, 2 —
were on an upper interior landing.

The legal, multi-family frame
dwelling has beep owned by
no signs of arson or anything of a
suspicious nature. According to
Mauersberger, the fire could
have been electrical in.origin.
- explaining that it was possible
that an extension cord had been
used to plug a refrigerator.
Early reports were that the
blaze had blocked the exit stairs
and that caused the rescue of the
three persons from the building.
When specifically asked, Mauersberger

Harden has been charged with

For Prostitution
FREEPORT • Six individuals
were arrested in five separate
instances, during a two day
period last week, September 26-
27. and charged with prostitution.
The arrests were made in the
Main Street area, from Sunrise
Highway north to one-two blocks
above the railroad station.
Of the six arrested and charged
onlv one was female; the other
five were males allegedly dressed
as women.
The three separate incidents on
Wednesday. September 26,
netted four arrests for Nassau
County Vice . Squad members

Testimony given by three
investigators for the Department
of State alleged that Blatchlcy, a
white man. had a black salesman,
Larry Moore, working for him.
When vbited by two investigators,
stating they were interested
In a mother-daughter house* on
the Queens-Nassau border.
Moore referred them to Blatch-
Icy.
According to the hearing
officer's written decision, Blatchlcy
told the investigator. "I deal
mostly in West Hempstead,
Uniondalc, and some in Hempstead,
but Hempstead is getting
interracial. Larry (Moore, the
black salesman] takes his customers
to Freeport and Roosevelt
and docs real well...You can get a
good buy there, but I wouldn't
take you because it is an interracial
area."
When visited by a third investigator,
Blatchlcy who allegedly
was un his way out, told the
department Investigator that he
would help him when he came
back. "Don't worT>' about the
black man working over there,"
Blatchly said. "He is just for the .
black customers. When you come
back. I don't take j-ou into an
intecratc'd area where lives the
black people."
While, Blatchly admitted the
visits by the three Inspectors, he
said that the reason ne shoned"

listings on that particular day
were in a state of disarray. Ifc
also admitted that his tcrritor>' is
Hempstead, Uniondalc and West
Hempstead, but that he had mndc
no reference to the investigators
as to whether these areas
were or were not integrated.

and if any customer comes inio
his office seeking a home in these
two areas he refers them to him.
