FREEPORT - With little pUnncd fanfare, the first dirt wiU be removed
from the 13.2 acres at Bennington Park Friday, September 14.
and the $2Vi million Two Guys Department Store wiU be on its way to
construction. The oflidal deed sigiung will take place the day before.
Two motions passed by the VllUge Board of Trustees at their weekly
meeting Monday, September ip,
paved the way iegaliy for the end-of-
the week schedule.
With one motion, the village
held the title company harmless
for any actions thst might result
from the Ugnlng. In July, it was
learned that a title search had
discovered no evidence that the
streets thit once criss-crossed the
tnore than 60 plots in Bennington
Park were ever officaUy dedicated
to the viUage. The viHage wiU now
condemn the streets.
•'In the second'nioUon/at the
Board meeting, the tttistces voted
to accept the Riunce plan and
specs as submitted by Brentwood
Development Corp.. for the Two
Guys site. It was noted that the
entire cost of - the Two Guys
building, including the land and
parking field" construction, would
come to about SS million. The
village's Community- Development
Agency will receive the sale
price of SI,083,780, upon signing
of the deed.
THE LEADER also learned that
the store is aiming for a spring
1980 opening.
The 110,000 square foot reuil
store is being built on a site
bounded by Sunrise Highway on
the north and Merrick Road on
the south, and lies between
Liberty and South Columbus
Avenues, close to Meadowbrook
Parkwav. Patting for 750 can wUI
be provided.
