Commerce president Sid Lieberman (r.). The 6-8 pm event will be held

planned for one week this summer,
the Freeport. Chamber of
Commerce has announced that its
next weekly Thursday afternoon
luncheon-meeting will not be held
until after Labor Day.
This: Thursday evening, July
26. the Chamber is co-sponsoring
a benefit cocktail party to raise
funds' for the Freeport Fire.

Allows Schools To
Supenrise Restitution
ALBANY • Legislation allowing
school districts . to supervise
youngsters ordered by the
courts to pay for damages they
have caused through 'service in
-the public good' was recently
. signed into law.

-Levy, school personnel will be

but only, a village spokesperson explabed, "under stringent rules."
The Village of Freeport reached a settlement in District Court after
its ordinance prohibidng door-to-door solicitation had been challenged
in court by the Unification
Church.
According to the stipulation
agreed to in court, notice can be
posted "in a conspicuous manner
upon private property that a
solicitor or prosclytizer shall not
enter without specific tnviution."
Church members ignoring such

In addition, the court stipulated
that' the Village Oerk must be
given the names and addresses of
all Chureh-members wishing to
solicit as weltas a statement as to
any felony convictions within the
last five vears.
Church members must carry
identification, as to their membership
in the Unification Church,
which tnust be shown if funds are
to be solicited. No items such as
candy, flowers etc. can be offered
for sale and no ptice can be stated
although donations can be solicited.
No orders for the sale of
goods or services In the future can
betaken.
Under the Court order, all soli-citattons
and proaelytlzlng activities
\d residential areas can be
carried out only between-9:30 am
and 8:30 pm or sunset whichever
is later.
Freeport is but one of several
towns and villages with anti-door-to-
door solicitation ordinances.
Federal Funds To Help School Computer
BALDWIN - The Freeport
Public School District will receive
$157,248 from the Office of
Education under the Emergency
School Aid Act. The funds, whose
approval has just been announced
by Congressman Norman Lent,
are earmarked for Freeport's
secondary Khools. allowing them
to use the school's existing
computer m the instruction
process in social studies, science
and mathematics. Computerized
instruction will be used to improve
students' ability to solve
problems and to. help them
tocrease their vocabtiUry.
Alonzo ShocUcy. director of
federal and stale projects for the
Freeport Public Schools, says the
grant will enable the District to
pul three teachers, a coordinator
and lab assistant to work on the
project two weeks before the
start of the school year to have the -
program in place for studenis
during the 1979-80 school year.

efforts in utilizing available
federal programs to Improve the
quality of education for students
in the Freeport school system."
