The cut which allowed the
S13 million plus budget to be
decreased was $200,000 which,
although probably coming out of
the contingency item of the.
budget, refiects'savings In sanitation.

In December, the board advertised
(or bids (tom srWeta
caiterx, returtuble January 4.-
The low bid.icom Five Counties
Cartibg: was S516,000 for tbe-flrst
of three-yean. Mayor William
H. Whke, during Monday night's
board meeting, mentioned that
the village would retain badt door
pick-up no matter what sanitation
compsny or department was-used.-
llie village recently conducted
a mail poU of .one and two
family home residents and, bv an
approimate 4-1 vote, those
answering'sald they did not want
to change to ctubude.pick-up of
their s ^ a g e . ~ . . . . .
The board must either award
• the bid or reject all bids no later
than 45 days from the day thev
were received and opened.
However, the board also had to
-approve a budget Monday
evening or the one proposed by
the Mayor would autonuiticallv be
adopted. Mavpr White exnlabed
later that the $200,000 from
savings in sanitation cdlectioh
whether the village went to
private carting or retained, the
municipal department. In the
latter case, a change in work rules
wouldUreate the lower expcn4i-tiires.
No definite figures have yet
been ^ven for savings that wpuld
be'realized if the village went to a
private .carting service. Originally,
a.SSOO;000 'amount had
been dUcttssed", but later, village
sources seemed to speak of it as
closer to $400,000. -
The adoption of. the: budget,
although it appeared first on the
Erinted agenda, was actually the
Lst ite^ discuned by the board.
The meeting, which began at 7:30
pm with tlv board 8 weekly
legislative session. Included
a pubUc hearing on assessment of

in attendance at one point in the
meeting which was recessed
