Freeport Suffers From Gas Pains

FREEPORT • Stores on and
around the Freeport Mall will be
oj>cn this Friday, June 29. until
midilght for the annual "Midnight
Sale." The event begins a
week of holiday sales, running
through July Fourth week and
ending Saturday, July 7
FREEPORT • Long lines where stations were pumping gas and loads
of "No Gas" or "Station Ooscd" signs at others were in evidence in
Freeport this past week as Governor Hugh Carey's odd-evcn-ratloning
plan went into effect in Nassau County. Villagers behaved well—under
the circumstances—with no problems on lines recorded by the village
piAlicc department. Local units
were called to the scene of service cupant claimed to the police that

Main Street recently. Present were officials from the Freeport Housing
Authority wiiich runs the senior citizen housing oh both North and

the occupant of a Bedell Street
house complained that someone

The fire oceurted Sunday, June
24, also early ii\ the morning.
The police report states that
someone allegedly poured gas
onto the street at New Street and
Stokes Avenue and ignited it. A

nearby. There was no explosion
