has won election as the Department's Third Deputy Chief in
the annual department-wide elections held Thursday. April S. at Free-port
headquarters. Running unopposed, and winning their positions

Although no public hearings have
yet been held on the sale of the
land and lb subsequent development,
both village business
people and residents have
attended open meetings of the
Board of Trustees throughout the
past year. The roerchanU, and
other representatives of the
Freeport Chamber of Commerce,
have voiced opposition' to the
projected site.
Local realtor Sid Liebcrman,
closed stores presently on the
Mall.
Other opposition came from the
merchants who, referring to a
village-funded report by planner
Walter Thablt. criticized the
proposed locatien-of-the-discount
store reported to be closer to the
eastern end of the ptopcrty.
Two other possible lises of the
land had previously been mentioned.
More than a year ago, it
was suggested that a developer
was interested In the site for~«
- Wooico store, and more receiltly
Freeport : builders Fred and
Joseph Scalanundre presented a
plan to the board which would
have them buying the land for
various uses including a large
BOCES center, a lumber and
home improvement store, warehouses,
offices and other com-mercUl
enterprises.

complained that their businesses
