FREEPORT • Requests by two'propcrty owners on Woodcleft Avenue
to improve their buildings.for use as retail establishments was
approved at a special meeting of the Village-Board of Trustees last
Tlmrsday, June 30. The two sites, 42 and '46 Woodcleft Avenue,
directly across the street from it.

FIERY END TO INDEPENDENCE DAY. Barely two-and-a-half hours
after the completion of its Fourth of July fireworks, the Freeport Fire

Tuesday morning. the'Spartan Masonic Lodge bursts Into flames,
resulting in the 102-year old building's ramplete destruction. Thirty-three
days after another huge fire, volunteer firemen return to the Intersection
of South Grove Streef and Sunrise Highway, wearily baltllntf
throughout the night to prevent the conflagration from spreading.

to the roof, hurting sheets of flame Into the sky;-:———' •
Middle: At the Inferno's peak, the roof collapses, sending sparks
over the bordering buildings. To block a further Ignition, firemen surround
the Lodge and send up a wall of water, creating a.dense shroud
of light and smoke.
Bottom: By dawn the fire Is extinguished, ash and debris are strewn
