Residents Come to ;
Village Board To Complain
FREEPORT - Two Freeport residents appeared before the Village
Board of Trustees, Monday nighf, to complain of problems involving
their properties.
Mrs. Parker, whose house on Forest Avenue, is around the comer
- from North Main Street, told the Board tliat two automobile acddents
onto her property witlnn the iast
two years has caused her, both
property damage and personal
tension. Her home is' adjacent
to the parking lot of the Nassau
County Medical Center, which
is being considered for use by
the County for offices relocated
from South Grove Street recently.
"Sometimes we run into problems
of residential property bordering
on business property,"
-Mayor WiHiam White agreed,.
but expbdned to her that he did
not tliink the village could require
'a business property owner
to put Gghts up or to keep people
out of parking fidds at ni^t.
He promised Mrs. Parker that
the village would encourage
Nassau Coudty to pave the
parking field (presently a source
of dirt, she claimed) if they
are going to use it and to lock or
dose It. "1 am reasonably sure,'.'
White said, "tliat we cannot
require a fence, but we will see
what we can do to get one installed."
.-
• Mrs. Parker blamed the lack
of a fence or buffer, between the
commercial property and her own
witli causing the . accidents
which, she said, resulted in over
S10,000 in damage to the front
of her house. i .
Explaining wliat happened the
night of one of the acddents,
Mrs. Pariter told the Mayor that
it took more than an hour for
the Freeport police to answer her
call for assistance 'after the-car
had hit her house. In that
time, she said, she attempted
to keep wirat she believed was
an intoncated driver from leaving
the premises. She complained
that when she caDed Ciief of
Police Anthony Elar the next day
about the delay, he asked her,
"How did you expect him (the-driver)
to leave the scene of the
accident? Did yoa expect liim to
leave by helicopter? What if he
