- FREEPORT • The Village's second year application, for funding
under the federal Community Developinent Act, indicates a
contihuation of projects started this, current year. The largest
allocation of $700,000,. will be.committed to the General Business
District for which a pedestrian mall on South Main Street, between
Sunrise Highway, to Merrick
The Mayor pointed out that to his
knowledge the Village had to
appoint an auditor that ni^t and
that Jordan had given the Board
no advance notice of his proposaL-Jcffdan,
however, voted with the
majority, of-the Board and &e
appointment went throu^ 5^ to 0.
When Jordan opposed the
ai^Mintmeht of Tlie: Schmeling
A^eiMy, the Mayor pointed out
jnat they were appointing, at that
time, a broker to handle only a
'small amoant of the 'Village's
insurance, dealing with bonds for
vniage officials. Jordan wanted
to open the selection of an in- .
surance agency to public bidding,
feeling that it would lead to an
analySs of the' Village's in^
suraiKe,and thus save money.
The 'selection of official
newspapers for the 'Village led to
another Jordan objection, with
tiie choice of the L.I. Kernel and
THE LEADER, each of which
would puMi^ the legals for a six
vaaaih period. He suggested that
the L.I. Graphic, which be termed
"a fledgling young
newspaper," fdlowing its sale to
- a n oct-rf-Freeport based graap at
newspapers, be cbosenai wdL In
a 4-1 vote, the Kernel received, the
designatioo for the period of Ajail
5 to Sept. 30. 1976, and THE
LEADER for a period starting
Oct U 19f76 through March 31,
1377.
Deputy Mayor
Mayor White appointed
Trustee Ralph Franco to serve
another one year term as DQJuty
Mayor.
