by the Freeport Chamber of Comnrierce. Left to right are Assemblyman
Armand D'Amato, United States Congressman Norman Lent,
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Alphonse D'Amato, and County
ExBiajtivB RalphXasp. In the background is a large bronze replica of.
the official seal of the Village. After brief ceremonies Freeporters
toured the new:administrative facilities in the Village. The theme of
the day, as mentioned in talks by tlie'offJcials from hiflhar reilmi of
government, was that Freeport symbolizes the advantages of home
rule and local government close to the people.. (F>hoto by Oscar)

Edward R. Yamin, a Freeport
attorney', and the Suburban

requested the Show Cause Order
on behalf of the Suburban Party
and its candidates. He stated that
the incumbent Village Party had
"notified the other slates that' i(
was reserving the top line for
itself, and that the others could
have a drawing for the remaining
lines at Village ,Hall on Friday,
March 2. At that time all other
groups presenting full slates, the
Suburban Party, the Action
Party, and the Freeport In-'
dependents;, appeared and
refused to participate in what,
they terifted an illegal drawing.
"'This Is the ultimate exhibition
of raw bossism, a malady that
has gripped our Freeport"
government progressively, and
now totally," Yamin said..
"Mayor Sweeney, who is the boss
of the Village Party, now not only
runs the Freeport government as
boss, buL,also controls the local
political party that selects its
candidates. Now he has taken
