LOOKS FAMILIAR? There's a difference in the look of me cars but
this view from Sunrise Highway looking south down iVlain Street is
clearly recognizable. Flags were flying for 1922 week-long Firemen's
Association.
NICE LITTLE HOMESTEAD. "Woodbine," palatial home of John J. Randall as It appeared In 1892 on
Lena Avenue at the head of Bergen Place. The home was later divided with one section still standing on
Woodbine Drive West. The other portion was destroyed by fire.
'THE" CLUB. Known both as "The Spartan Club." and "The Free
port Club," the clubhouse pictured in 1922 and still standing as the
Spartan Masonic Lodge at Sunrise Highway and South Grove Street,
shared the limelight with the Lights Club and the Elks Club as "the"
place to be seen in FreeporL Directly to the left is the building in
f ^ l g j which THE LEADEf^ Is headtpjartered today.

PLAYLAND. The Playlantd Park occupied the eastern side of Woodcleft Canal during the twenties and

'The finest amusement park on Long Island. Fully equipped with Roller Coaster, Merry-Go-Round,
Air-plane Swing/Dance Hall, Swimming Pool and many other attractions."The Depression began tiie
Park's fall from popularity in addition to the opening of Jones Beach. Finely abandoned, it became a
camping ground for gypsies and soon burned to the ground. Many Preeporters remember, however, the DEDICATION OF OUR MONUMENT. This group of Civil War
bright lights reflected in the Canal, the music of the dance bands and the screams of the rollercoaster veterans attended the July 4,1062 dedication of "The Cannon." one
riders. of the Village's best known landmarks.
