Experts to See Power Plant
The New York - New Jersey
Metropolitan Chapter of the
American Public Works
Association, attracting some 500
public works officials and
engineers, will hold its 19TO
spring meeting and equipment
show in Hempstead Town May 17
and included in the s^sion wiU be
an inspection tour of Freeport's
new power plant. Other tours
scheduled are those to the
county's new pollution control
plant in Seaford and the Hempstead
Tomi Sanitation Ecology
Control plant, Merrick.

who is scheduled to speak to the
conference's dinner meeting at
the Malibu Beach Club. Point

public works officials from

Hempstead Town is making in
newspaper recycling and in
trying to alleviate the solid waste
crisis that is facing all
municipalities."
Teenager in Bank Holdup
Thomas Boulukos, 17, 39
Harding Place, was arrested last
Friday night on first-degree
robbery charges after allegedly
holding up a teller at the Long
Island Trust Company branch at
2^ S. Main Street and making off
with $2,315.
The young Boulukos, an employee
at Ws uncle's restaurant
and ice cream parlor at 4 Church
Street, was reci^nized by several
witnesses inside the bank and by
others as he fled.
Freeport Detective Richard
Comerford and Patrohnan Arthur
Zimmer along with
Detective Eugene Woessner of
the Nassau County Police
Department, arrested the young
Boulukos at his home shortly
after. The money, along with an
air pistol apparently used in the
theft, was confiscated.
Fatal Crash at Smuise & Grove
A heart attack is assumed to f
have caused the car accident at
the intersection of Sunrise Highway
-and S. Grove Street last
Wednesday at 5:25 p.m.
John Pagano, OT. of the Bronx
was headed east on Sunrise with
his wife. Marporett also 67, when
hei apparently l«st, consciousness
causing his car to careen across
the highway,.niounting the southwest
curb, hitting a light pole and
fire hydrant and shattering the
plate^ass windows of Friedman's
Pharmacy. The uncontrolled
auto finally came to a
stop when it hit the car containing
Mr. and Mrs. Giordano of 222 N.
Long Beach Avenue, Freeport.
Mr. .Pagano was taken to
Doctors Hospital where he died.
Mrs. Pagano was treated for
shock. The Glordanos were^ not
injured.

In South Freeport a property
owner was found guilty (tf

owner recoitly purchased the
house, apparently under the
belief that it was a legal two -
family house and he has been
directed to remove the second
apartment.
In another house on Shonnard
Avenue there was a $100.00 fine to

which has been reported
to the proper authorities.
In four cases schedifled for brial
the defendants did not appear
and warrants were issued for
their arrest. Two of these cases
involved over - occupancies and
the other two were for a
sanitation and a zoning violation.
Mr. Lavallee again asked
Freeport residents to report any
instances of over - occupancies in
their own neighborhoods, such as
two or three famili^ living in a
one - family house, or an illegal
rooming house, or more than one
roomer living in a one - family
house in addition to the family in
residence. He noted that these
over - occupancies place an
undue burden on all the law •
abiding residents arid toxpayers
of the Village, requiring more

in sessions conducted
by the Freeport Narcotics
Guidance CouncU, the director,
Jaddie Stewart reported this
week.
The Council is the official
education and prevention unit of
the Village of Freeport and Mr.
Stewart is the full - time director.
Council Board members are: Dr.
Emmett Campbell, M.D.; Joseph
Leav, Esq., Attorney - at - law;
Reverend E. Mitchdl Mallette of
the Second Baptist Church;

"Our approach to
education," Mr. Stewart said, "is
aimed at creating a sensitivity to

Village. In addition to communicating
factual information
about drug - abuse, the Council

Mr. Stewart noted
that the presentations by his
volunteers and himself are made
in private homes, churches,
schools, and clubs.
One of the best received
programs is the *'Living Room
School," Mr. Stewart said, in
which a neighborhood group
gathers in one home on a block to
discuss drug - abuse in an in-
