D'AMATO TO SEEK SE^T IN
NEW lath A.D.: Atma^ P.
D'Amato of Island Park, a young
man who ofi^s a bad^^wmd of
legislative experience and
community l^ui^^ip, has been
tapped by ttie Nmtsau Ciiun^
Re|mblif»n Par^ to se^ the
Assembly s^t in the newly
crated 18th As^nbly Dittriet.
Under the recently enacted
reafportlimment lian of the tole
Legislature, the new 18th
As^mbly Disblet was created to
include portions of Merrick,
Baldwin, Ocranslde, Fr^pcMrt,
Baldwin Harb^ and latend Park.
D*Amato has serv^ feu* tto
past two yeare as the lei^shitive
^Hii^ii to Assemblyman Jose^
M. Margiotta (R-UniondaleJ,
who is also ^namu R^wAlican
Par^ Oiairman.
In Albany, D'Amato was
charged with the rcsporffilbility
of helping in the research and
writing of many vital p l i ^ of
legislation. He helped prepare
the Marine Sanctuary Act irf iSfi
so that the wedands of Long

help«i write l^islation so that
New York Stote could prolyl Ifa
{rff-shore waters without the need
of weking greater powera from
ttie Cedraral government.
In addition, when it was
revealed that some cesspool

Board is exfremdy proud of its "inside" operation which
has won it mxlsksi throughout the munteipalitl^ of our
Stote. We sincerely anticipate that the restructuring of the
"outside** chain of command will afford an efficiency of
operation which can make for an unbeatable municipd
team.
In iie areas of anticipated actbity we are all aware of
the need for remedial action in our North Mmn Shreet area
and tfie total of tfie BoardVefforti will and are being exerted
to arrive at a solution to that most prying proWera.
Of equal oon«m are two important areas of aclWty -
our incii^rator mid our sewer plant system. We are ail
aware of the ecolo^cal emphasis of the times - but may
be unawirfe of the tapact such emphasis is having on our
pocketbooki.
We are faced with tlie problen» of expandii^ our
incinerator phmt - or going into the Town system, and of
modemiiing our sewer plant - or going In to the County
sptero. ThBM are not easy decisions; they cannot be
dealt with l^htly - or disregarded - the problems are
there - and In n e ^ of immediate solution.
With us too, is the constant problem of the periodic
hooding of our southern struts. Being a waterfront
community - I don't know that we*ll ever really solve
that problem ui its entirety - but it cannot be ignored -
and the elimination of such a problem is expensh^e.
We have Just awarded bids on the Hanse Park Com-mumty
CSenter - ami pn^rely hope and pray that Ite
o i n ^ t t o n wiU in some way tend to ease the unrest of our
youth and give sdace to our senior citizenry.
•Riefe is much that has to be done - and we, this
Board, pledge our utmcrat efforts to accomplish the task.
Before we begin - we, as a Board, want to suiccrely
