to the Town Park at Lido Beach
and Oceanslde Park and Pool.
Buses will return at approximately
3:30 in the afternoon.
"This free service has proved
highly sncoessfui since its tn-cepticm
three years ago," Purcell
stated. He pointed out that 31,000
residents participated in the
iropam in 1968. and 50.000 the
following year.
"Last year, m«ne than 65,000
bathers of all ages went swimming
at their favorite faciliti^
and left the driving to us,"
Pureed! added.
There are 10 different routes,
with designated pickup and
discharge points cm each.
Route 6 inchides Honpstead,
Uniondale, Roosevelt and
Freeport, to lido on Mondays
and Wednesdays
PurceU said that detailed maps
listing all pickup points and time
schedules for each of the 10
routes will som be available
through the mails, on request,
and in the town's parks and
recreation areas. Youngsters
under 12 must be accompanied by
an adult ova* 18. In cases of inclement
weather, buses wil! not

Pair Killed in
Highway Accident
Two pedestrians were struck and killed Friday evening
on Snmise Hi^^way near Liberty Ave. and tlie driva- of tfie
car tiiat struck them was a r r a y e d in District Court,
Mineola, on drunken driving charges.
Betty Washington and Freddie Wri^t both of 38
Benniiigton Ave. were crossing &inrise from North to
South near Libmy Ave. when a car travelling East on
Sunrise and beii^ driven by Richard Robertson, 25, of
21 Park Lane PL, Massapequa, collided with a car driven
by Betty Davis, 26, of 85 Leonard Ave., Freeport
Robertson's car careened across the intersection of Sunrise
and Liberty striking the two pedestrians who were
pronounced dead at the scene.
Fred Grum, of 1 Itorison PI., Freeport, and Leroy
Harder of 85 Leonard St., passengers in Miss Danris* car,
were taken to Debtors Hospital along with Miss Davis
and all three w o e listed in serious condition.
Robertson was charged with driving while drunk and
paroled by Judge Elijah Mills for a hearing July 19th.
Consumemiobile Visits Freeport
The *Xk>nsaniennolMle," a 32^oot travding complaint
and information unit of the Nassau County Ofifice of
Consumer Affairs, wiD be in FREEPORT at WEST END
OF STATION PLAZA from TUESDAY. JULY 6th through
FRIDAY, JULY 9th.
Hours will be 12 noon to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday and
Thursday, 9 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Friday.
Commissioner of Consumer Affairs James E. Picken
saki the Consumermobile would offer all the services provided
at the main office at 160 Old Country Road, Mineola.
Trained staff will take people's complaints for invest%ation
and advise on problems.

Senator Norman J. Levy hailed
Secretary of Defense Meivin R.
laird's statement that the United
States and Turkey were n^ring
an agreement to end the iUicit
heroin traffic which originated in
Turkey. Secrrtary Laird told a
Senate panel in Washington, "I
will be able to repwt to you in two
weeks that positive action has
been taken. " Mr. Laird continued.

answer to the problem lies in the
Turkish government's
prohibiting the growing <rf poppies
and informed them of
legislation passed by the State
Legislature permitting the Stale
(rf New York to contract with the
Turkish government to soil bank
the poppy growing lands.
Senator Levy said, **The four
tons of heroin of Turkish origin
imported annually into the
United States has crated grave
concern among Federal and
State legislators. I am most
p'atifled at these nosilive steps
taken by the Federal government
and I trust that the New York
Stale Legislative action to
dramatize the emergeticy nature
dL this epidemic was a helpful
catalyst in bringing some onler
out of this tragic and chaotic
