Commencement Exercises at FHS
The Reverend Chester E. Hodgson is shown above as he gpve the invocation Sunday afternoon
at graduation ceremonies at FHS. Four hundred and sixty seven young men and
women received diplomas and awards before a large audience of friends and relatives on
a beautiful, warm, sunny day. Selections by the High School Mixed Chorale, Senior High
Concert Band, and addresses by the Salutatorian, Robert Harrison, and Valedictorian,
George Gollin, were warmly received and applauded by the 1500 people present. Gollin,
recipient of the Preadential Scholar Award, was honored by Mayor Sweeney who
proclaimed the week beginning June 27th 'XiEORGE GOLLIN WEEK".

Firematic Show
The Freeport Fire Department wiH present its 11 th
annual Firematic and Firework show at the Freeport
Stadium, Sunday, July 4th.
The gala affair boasts of many attractions such as
burning an oil lank truck and small house, use of hi-expansion
foam with suds four feet deep, a ladder truck
driving exhibition, and a demonstration ^y Hose 3's Jr.
Fire Co., (ages 6-12).
Children may ride real fire trucks from 6 PM to 7 PM
and the grand parade headed by the Freeport Fire Dept.
band will begin a( 7:00 PM. Kathy Day, Miss LI South
Shore will also appear on the program. The dimax wHI
be a display of $3,000. worth of Tireworks on the ground
and in the air.
Seats for 10,000 are available. Admission is 50 cents
for children, $1.00 for adults and $1.25 for reserved
seats.

PROCLAMATION
The Fourth of July will mark the 195th annivcisaiy of
the founding of our nation. As we celebrate ttm historic
date, our nation is faced widi its greatest challenge; a
burgeoning population, restless youth impstknt for fulfill-ment
of our nation's ideals, donands for greater civil
ri^ts, and the sapping of our countiy's moral strength
thrcxig^ increased crime, dmg abuse and poverty.
Communities throughout the nattpo are declaiing this
Independence Dny, July 4th, as **Hoiior America Day" in an
effort to encourage an expression of appreciation for the
blessings and greatness of our country.
It is the opinion of this office that this activity should be
recogriized m an effort to unite Anglicans at a time «4ien
our patriotism and respect for ttie natioa^ purposes ^ould
be encouraged by aU responsible citiziais.

Robert J. Sweeney, Mayor of the Incoiporated \^age of
