Electrical Equipment In a reemphasis of Elks Youth
Week, May 3rd through May 6th,
eleven Freeport High Students
under the supervision of Miss
Doris Niekerson of the Political
Science Department, "took over
the Village government" at a
regular 9 P.M. board meeting. To
the applause of a crowded ViUage
Hall, the following students were
introduced in their "official
capacities"; Mayor Robert
Rosenblum; Village Trustees Joe
Rogers, Donald Sparling,
Michele Corso, Joel Diringer;
Village Counsel Kathleen
Volkert; Village Engineer Rich
Morrison; Village Clerk Clare
Tarmey; Village Treasurer
Linda Eckhart; Chief of Police
Mark Koenig; Mayor's Secretary
Carlotta DeMaio.

won^en, will be speaker .at the
Youth Program at the Freeport
Elks Clubhouse on Thureday
evening, May 6th at 8:00 P.M.
The Youth Program is the
"wind-up" of a series of events,
dinners, outings and youth
participation programs conducted
by the Freeport EUcs for
their annual observance of
YOUTH WEEK. The programs
were conducted by PER "Vince"
Missiano, Chairman.

program biing the climax of

Freeport is moving to expand
municipal electric production, to
keep up with local usage which is
far outstripping earlier
estimates.
Mayor Robert J. Sweeney
announced that the Village Board
this week authorized the purchase
of additional electric
generating equipment for the
Freeport power plants. Acting on
the recommendations of Electric
Utlliti^ Superintendent Ludovic
Long, the Village Board has
decided to acquire a gas turbine
type generator, to add between
17,000 and 23,000 kilowatts to the
Freeport electric department's
generating production capacity.
This would Increase total electrical
capacity to over 50,000
kilowatts.
Mayor Sweeney reported that
the Village Board was
authorizing the preparation of
specifications and bid dMuments
for the generator, which it is
hoped would be in use by
February 28,1973. The unit would
be designed for operation on oil
as well as gas.
This action was taken, Mayor
Sweeney said, after the Village
Board reviewed a special Power
Supply Study submitted by Supt.
Long. The report found that the
electric system demand was far
in excess of that contemplated by
the 1965 Power Generation
Feasibility Study. The demand is
now greater than 86% of
Freeport's total generating
capacity, the "recent report indicated,
and the projected
demand would consume all

"Joseph McAndrews, the
senior member of the Free-port
Board of Education,
announced this week that
he would seek re-election.
Mr. McAndrews was first
elected to the Board in 1966
and was overwhelmingly reelected
in 1969. He served
as President of the Board
in 1969 and 1970.
In a statement, Mr. McAndrews
said, "Frankly. I
had thought I miglit step
down after this term of
office was over in June
after five years of service.
However, recent developments
in our community
and in our State made it
clear that this was not the
time for me to quit."
Mr. McAndrews is an engineer
with the New York
Telephone Company, and
he and his wife Fran have
been residents of Freeport
for over ten years. He has
four children attending our
schools, ^ith Jay at Dodd,
Kenneth- at Atkinson, and
Bonnie Lee and David at
Archer.
Reverend S. Frank Emmanuel
has announced that
he will seek a seat on the
Freeport Board of Education
in the election scheduled
for June 8. In a statement
to the press Rev.
Emmanuel said, ''Since Tom
