, 'who is ROBERT HESS? . . . Someone might say that Mr. Orr
Is a newly-elected Village Trustee. (Give an "A" for this^but
what betore his election about 90 days ago?) . . . TU even give
some clues: Lloyd Ojrr is a GOP commlttoeman. non-elecled btU
appointed by the leadership to till a vacancy. He t>ecame Hess'
"Godfather" , . . This is a claim to poUlical fame? . . . Now, 1
hear that Ihey are attempting to disrupt one of-;$he finest, most
highly respected and very productive Republican organizations
in Hew Yot'k State . . . (This is not ouly my impression, but also
tho impression of all GOP leaders from the Town of Hempstead,
to the County and right to Albany) . . . I will not even bother
to try to find- any selfish motives why they endeavor this really
useless move . . . I should think that Mr. Orr, an a novice trustee,
would spend all of his extra iimo being concerned with the problems
of Froopoit and his duty as trustee . . . (Every other trustee
remarked that conscientious service is time-consuming—or does
ORR intend io be merely a "Rubl>ei Stamp" with plenty of free
time, and use his trustee spot as a stepping stone?) . . . And
about Hess—^Woll, "Wiio the Hcs* is he?" . . . He was eppoint-
. ed less than a month ago as'a Freeport GOP Committeeman,,
but, as of this:dale, he has still to attend a committeeman's meet*
ing. As a veteran political reporter. I wonder, .wouldn't it be
more logical that he meet the other committeemen before he
tries to replace them? . . . I credit anyone who seeks personal'
improvement after serving an apprenticeship . . . Bjit seriously
speaking,''- can the poUtical background, knowledge and stale-wide
contacts of a Hess or an Orr.compare with the proven
results of Mtnlz and Vollmor? . . . {Ifs like an Air Force recruit
wanting to fly ApoUo 10 to the moon!) . . / . Like thousands
of others. I know nothing about Hess', primary work, but I
do know that Lloyd Orr was elected to serve as trustee and '
this should keep him extra busy in helping to again make FresT
- port's image brilliant.-; . . So. what Is thelranglW
