Village Clamps Down
On Absentee Landlords

The Freeport Village Board
took anoUier step thii week to
lighten enforcement of Housing
and Building Code provisions.
Village (Counsel Oateiy Gentry,
Jr. was directed to p-epare a new
ordinance requiring every ab-sentee
landlord to have a local
representative in the Village The
purpose of the new law. Mayor
Robert J Sweeney said, is to
allow the Code Enforcement
Attorney and the Building
Department to serve ^nvmoiffies
or obtain compliance whenever
there is an alleged housing
violation. "Tm often," he said.
