NCPA's annual dinner on Sunday,

In making die announcement,
the association's president.
Dear Resident:
The Village Board was very
much concerned when we r e ceived
a petitiOTi from some of the
people in the sect ion of the V illaae
near the new Power Plant, inoi-catlng
a possible problem with
noise and/or vibrati<His.
Tests cwiducted by experts
since June 1969 prove oeyondany
doubt that the noise and vibration
levels from Power Plant No. 2
are so low as to be almost undetectable
using the most sensitive
equipment.
This is corroborated by tests
conducted In June and July 1970
by the Nassau County Departn^nt
of Health, which indicated that ttie
noise and vibrations levels were
less than those created by the
usual household appliances and
the noise level was of no greater
intensity than exists in die average
household.
We wiU continue to keep a continuous
watch on potential problems
arising out of the Power
Plant and will, of course, take any
necessary steps to minimize problems
which might develop.
Please be assured of our interest
and concern in this matter.
Very truly yours,
Robert J . Sweeney

Mrs. Jane Gilroy of Merrick,
housewife and nnther of 6, and
her party workers, have filed a
14,000 name peiiiioti eudorsinc
her candidacy for Governor of
New York State on the "righi
to life" ticket.
The new party, orpaiiized oidy
3 weeks ago, has a nuuiaii leiui.
as an eml)1eni and Is opposed to
abortion "under any circuiii-svances."
The putty has not laken
a stand on any other issue and
Mrs. Gilroy says, "f^unning for
governor is the last thing I would
normally do, but someone had to
rise up and say no to an abortion
law which legalizes the killing
of ihousands of unborn children."
The '"right lo life" party is
currently operating on a
"grocery money" budget of
$100.00.
Martin E. Weiss, editor and
publisher of The Westbury
Times, said the NCPA's decision
to vote the award to Mr. Rockefeller
was primarily based on
the "Freedom of Information Bill
for Newsmen" which the governor
signed into law this year.
The legislation makes New
York the only state in the union
which both protects the public's
right to toiow and the First
Amendment rights of journalists
and broadcasters.
In signing the landmark bill,
which protects newsmen from
charges of contempt in proceeding
brought under state law,
the governor termed freedom of
* e press "one of the foundations
upon which our form of government
is based,"
•^^/t. reprejiAagiWi; democracy
c4Uift6f exist^|i§»'aaded, '^in-less
there K' afree press bodi
willing and able to keep the
public Informed."
Among other things, the legislation,
strongly sui^rted by die
New York Press Association, a
statewide weekly newspaper
organization, and the New York
State Publishers Association, a
dally newspaper organization,
makes it possible for newsmen
to hold Inviolate the names of
their sources of information.
The NCPA's award to tfie
governor will also r«:oplze
Mr. Rockefelter's '^inusufil^^j
sensitivity** to die weekly press,
and to the needs of N assau County.
The assoclatiiKi's annual
dinner again scheduled for
the Georgun Room of the Garden
Cltyflbtel. Some 1,000 persons
are expected to attend.
