presented this summer at Jones
Beach. Cast includes its star,
Constance Towers, center, and
the Trapp children. The performance
was sponsored by the
LIRR. lo announce their
"package tickets," which will
enable purchasers to leave early
to spend the day at the beach and
take in the show at night.

Funds for Open Land,
Urban Renewal Progress
Spotlip Village Action
Freeport has received approval for Federal funds in
the amount up to $104,000, matching fu|ids, to be used for
acquisition of a triangular parcel of property on the
north side of the railroad station across the way from
the main fii% headquarters.
The grant ojmes to the Village
under the Federal Open !^ace
Act. A resolution by the WUage
Board on Monday, July 13. wUl
enable the Village Counsel,
Oakley Gentry, to proceed with
c»nd«nnation, so that the court
will d^ermine a price for the
property. Planning Associates,
an architectural firm, is working
with the Freeport Park Department,
according to a village
spoteanan, to draw final plans
for use of the area. Property
acquired through the Open Space
Act illandates its use as A park'
area.
A non-conforming apartment
dwelling at 314 Smith Street has
been declared sub-standard and
ordered demolished by the
FVeeport Village Board. The
finding was made at a special
hearing on July 13, al which the
Village produced expert
testimony from a structural
engineer and architect. The
property owner. Theodore Iblfe,
informed the Village Board that
he will not o|qK^ the \Wage's
action in court, when the VUlage
Counsel appears to obtain the
necessary court order for
demolition.
In othor actifm: The Freeport
Village Board, acting as the
Urban Renewal Agency, set' a
date of July 27, 9:00 pm, for a
public hearing on the urban
renewal site. Wt bearing is
necessary in order to eadude one
property, the building constructed
at the comer of M^rick
Road and Helen Avenue, before
all building activity was stofqied
in the urban renewal area.

Pilot Program to Use
Volunteer Manpower
A pilot program aimed at expanding the role (rf citizen
volunteers on the community level will b ^ n (Ms
September in Freeport. Under a plan developed by the
Nassau County Office of Volunteer Services, vnA Voe
cooperation of the Freeport Memorial Library, a desk
will be placed in the library and serviced by vcdiuiteers
who wiU coordinate and disseminate aU available information
on volunteer services and needs in the
Freeport area.
Mrs. Phi Fleer, coordinator of
the Nassau County Office of
Volunteer Services, said that
senior citizens, students,
housewives and business men
will be invited to donate a few
hours of their time each week to
the project.
The effect of the initial
program would be (o provide a
sort of direction service for
poisons willing to offer volunteer
service, as wdl as a recruitment
center for Freepcurt organizations
seeking volunteer workers.

least ten persons wUliag to be
trained as oonsuitants who would
serve as volimteers manning the

volimteer organizations in
