WE WISH YOU ft H Am
In this era of world conflict, we seldom take
time to pause and contemplate the more important
things of life. More than three centuries ago our forefathers
designated a special day on which to give
thanks for their survival through hardships of a rigorous
winter and for the bountiful soil of a new land.
From this soilhas grown the tradition that one day in
the year should be set aside to count our manifold
blessings and to offer our thanks for the free and
plentiful earth we walk and for the strength to meet
the ttianiy challenges yet confronting oor community
and our country. •
As the Thanlcsgiving holiday approaches we look
forward to the family gatherings. The traditional
turkey dinner with all the trimmings is the high point
of the celebration. It is unfortunate that many families
in our own will be incomplete this year; husbands and
sons will be missing from the family circle, They will
be spending their Thanksgiving lying in a foxhole or
sitting in a rice paddy somewhere in Viet Nam. No
-matter what your viewpoint on the war, you still must
remember our boys who are away from us.
If we are to say a prayer for next Thanksgiving,
it would be to bring our boys home . .'.and erase the
threats of war that dominate the newspaper headlines
. . . help us to resolve those differences that divide the
. peoples of the world.
Let us each in our own way reach toward justice,
tranquility and understanding.
