Utilities and Industries Corpora­tion

Both Caso and Murphy, ap­pearing
at a series of recent pub­lic
hearings held by the PSC,
argued that the hike in rates was
not warranted by the quality of
service in the area. They stress­ed,
further, that water sales in
the district were limited solely
by the company's water distribu­tion
limitations, pai'ticulurly dur­ing
peak hot weather periods,
rather than by any lack of con­sumer
demand. This point was
preswd as a major argument
against grar.ling a rate increase.
PSC Examiner Edward L,
Block found insufficient evidence
on, the part of the utility com­pany
to justify a rate Increase
which would have amounted to
a total of $160,000 11 year. The
state agency ruled that the com­pany
was already realising a
reasonable jrofit.
