The Freeport Fire Department will sponsor the First Annual Nassau
County Battalion Parade and Drill on September 23 & 24. The
nine battalions which malte up Nassau County consists of 12 fire departments
with 8,000 volunteer firemen.
The parade will start at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 from Wood-cleft
Avenue going norbh to Front
Street, then to Ocean Avenue and
continuing north to Merrick Boftd,
tSen east to Church Street and then
north to Pine where It will terminate.
Beside the many volunteer fire
departments, their Women's Aiuxil-iaries
and tsands, the six very lovely
Miss Rheingold contestants for 1B62
will lie on hand for the parade..
After the parade a gala block
party will be held on Church St.
between Merrick Rd, and Pin* St.
The public Is.lavlted to Join in the
festivities.
Ulie drill will be held on Sunday
afternoon at Firemen's Field starting
at 1 p.m. Firemen's Field Is located
on Sunrise Highway and Buffalo
Avenue in Freeport.
The three ijip racing teams from
each-of the nine battalions will participate
in six different events for

Preeport Republican Leader Peter O. Kelly announced that some of
Nassau County's top dignitaries will address the Presort Republican
Club and its members at the big meeting planned on Tuesday, Septemiier
26, at the Freeport Eaks Club.
Freeport GOP Ciub President Robert Schade reported that final
plans have been completed and that a record attendance Is expected at
this first official 1861 Fall meeting. The Preeport R^ublioan Club is one
Of the most active and one of the largest in the State of New "york.
Special guests at this affair will mclude Robert EMU, Republican
candidate for County Executive, Manuel Levlne, District Attorney and
jKse Combs, Sheriff of Nassau County.
