The fifth-grade students in Jenny Seaman's class at John H. West Elementary
School in the Plainedge School District were excited to meet Staff Sergeant
Andrew Expos ito after his return from serving in Afghanistan. Photo provided

Not long after arriving safely back home from defending our country,
Staff Sergeant Andrew Exposito visited the students in Jenny Seaman's fifth-grade
class at John H. West Elementary School to thank them for the care
package they had sent the Marine Staff Sergeant earlier in the school year.
"Around Veterans Day we created a book of letters for Staff Sergeant
Exposito... the students wrote messages of hope, gratitude, and appreciation
for his service," stated Ms. Seaman. "They were extremely excited to learn
that he had arrived back home and would be visiting our class to speak about
his experiences. This is a day that my students will not soon forget."
During the visit, Staff Sergeant Exposito spoke with the students
about serving overseas, how long he has worked in the military, what types
of jobs he has had while in the Marines, and the different medals he has
earned.
"I was so happy to have received the book as it came close to the
holiday season," stated Staff Sergeant Exposito. "The mail system overseas is
extremely unpredictable, but the timing of the delivery was perfect. It really
meant a lot to me that these students spent the time to create something for
me...it was so unexpected."
