Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run
•Bethpage's own Daniel Kant crosses the
finish line in 3rd place overall for the
second straight year.
With the scent of snow in the air, but fortunately several hours
before it hit the ground in the big December 19th snowstorm, 29
year old Shari Klarfeld of Plainview created a storm of her own by
winning the Women's Division of the 22nd annual Carter, DeLuca,
Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run through the
streets of Bethpage.
Klarfeld reprised her recent 5K wins in the November 22nd
Great Prostate Challenge 5K in Woodbury and the December 6th
Gary Mintz Memorial Run in Brentwood with a strong 19:44 finish
in Bethpage, with Susan Haywood of Ridge second in 20:20, and
Charlotte Johnson of Port Jefferson Station finishing as the third
woman in 20:35.
21 year old Austin Huminski of Oyster Bay was the overall
Men's winner, crossing the finish line at the John F. Kennedy
Middle School in Bethpage in 17:20, 8 seconds in front of runner
up 18 year old Dylan Denuzzo of Melville, with 25 year old home-town
Bethpage speedster Daniel Kant third in 17:56.
Kant scored as the first finisher from Bethpage for the second
year in a row, and took first place honors in the 25-29 Age Group.
He was third overall in 2008 and he was again in 2009, but his
17:56 finish this year represented a big improvement over his 18:24
last year.
Other Bethpage athletes winning Awards in the 2009 Run were
Michael Levtchenko, who was the seventh runner overall tor'T^nish
and second in the 25-29 Age Group, and Karina Jiminez, who
scored first among the women in the 30-34 Age Group
A total of 1016 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes made it to
the finish line.
The Ho Ho Ho Run was conducted under the auspices of the
Greater Long Island Running Club, with GLIRC's Ric Diveglio
