BETHPAGE ROTARY - MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD - The
Bethpage Rotary Club held a special meeting at the Beau Sejour, in
Bethpage, June 7, 1973 to present their annual awards. Shown here
are, from left to right, Robert Moore, President of the Bethpage
Rotary Club; Councilman Sal Mosca, also a member of the Rotary,
presenting the "Area Man of the Year Award" to Pt. Walter Scholl,
Director of the Bethpage Police Boys Club and looking on very
pleased, Deputy Inspector, of the Nassau County Police Department,
Ed Proctor.
Incumbent Kes Miklas
was defeated by Harold
Resnick 1,777 to 875 while
incumbent trustee An-"
thony Lo Faso won his seat
for another three-year
term by a vote of 1,381. Lo
Faso defeated Elizabeth
Gackowski who polled 759
votes.
The School budget was

Bahnken and Trustee
James Walsh. Incumbent
Dominick Gagliardo kept
Robert Galante defeated
Terri Bahnken 2,468 to
1,099. Irving Weber
chalked up 2,499 votes to
James Walsh's 1,310 and
Dominick Gagliardo won
over Frank Corrado 2,610
to 1,212. Running on a
overwhelmingly passed by
1,355 to 702. The Library
vote was 1,393 in favor and
693 against. Library
Trustee Leon Carlin
succeeded himself and
won 1,337 votes. He was
unopposed although 4,825
persons registered to vote
only 2229 actually took the
time out to cast their vote.
The $12,035,847 school
budget will raise the tax
rate 47 cents to $12.67 per
$100 of assessed valuation.
The library budget of
$261,469 will increase the
tax rate 2.8 cents, from 43
cents to 45.8 cents.
The composition of the
Board of Education has
shifted back to a liberal-oriented
majority.
platform of "more communication
between the
Board and the public," the
winning slate has shifted
the balance of power to a
liberal majority.
Budget
The $13,460,567 school
budget was approved 2,069
to 1,665. This reflects an 80-
cent tax increase over
1972-73 and raises the tax
rate to $15.58 per $100 of
assessed valuation.
The voters defeated a
proposition for $350,000 for
school building improvements.
The library budget was
appraised 2,141 to 1,025.
The $266,777 budget
carries a four cent increase.
The rate will be 70
cents per $100. Dorothy
Strong won a five-year
seat as Library Trustee
over Edith Booth by a vote
of 1,983 to 1,360.
HOWARD A. PALESTINE AWARD - At their special award meeting
the Bethpage Rotary also presented the "Howard A. Palistine
Memorial Awards for Outstanding Rotarians of 1972-73" to Harry
Flor, left, owner of Fair Play Lumber in Bethpage and to Perry
DeLalio, right. Presenting the awards on behalf of the Bethpage
Rotary is Dick Sturz. Mr. Palistine was the builder of Mid-Island
Hospital in Bethpage.

one student each yearwhohas excelled in at least two sports.
Tennis Champ
Rated "A"
Robert Stein, Captain of the
Kennedy Varsity Tennis Team,
has added another honor to his
list of accomplishments for 1972-
1973. In the Eastern Lawn Tennis
Association rankings for 1972,
Stein was named as a "Class A"
player, thus becoming the first
tennis player in Plainview school
hisotry to receive an Eastern
ranking. "Class A., indicates that
he is rated between 25 and 35 in
ability of all 16 year old and under
tennis l a y e r s in the Eastern
arearTflattain his ranking, Stein
defeated several highly-ranked
players in U..S.L.T.A'' tournaments
over the summer.
In the fall. 1972 varsity tennis
season, Stein, a southpaw, was
undefeated in league play, and
was the unanimous selection of
North Shore coaches as the top
player in Division IV. He was
named Att-Efeiitifln and All-North
Shore, receiving a plaque at the
All-County Tennis Dinner in
November. In the course of the
season, in non-league play, he
also defeated several other All-
North Shore selections.
A junior, Stein has been playing
tennis for five years, and has
received advance training at

Morgan trophy, symbolic of this honor. Sharing Karl's happiness are

Zeitler, Coach. The trophy has been contributed since 1952 by the
Morgan family,ot /ancsvillc, Ohio, in memory of their late son. a
former AggieiTsoriiU star and nephew of ex-L.l.l'. basketball coach.
Clair Bee. Rocky was killed in an automobile accident*one month
after his graduation.
