Bethpage Parent Group Aims
To Communicate With Kids
Medicine Show Highlights Country Fair
A group of concerned
Bethpage adults has put in
motion a renewed effort to
establish a successful
communications program
between the community's
youths and those over age
21. The aim of the new
program will be to
establish positive working
programs between adults
and teen - agers without
the prior handicap of
making such efforts drug -
involved.
The spokesman for the
group, Mrs. Gene Maz-zara,
interim president of
the group once known as
BAD.A. (Bethpage
Against Drug Abuse),
emphasized that while
some of those interested
may come from the canks
of BAD A, the reorganized
program calls for total
community involvement.
Stated Mrs. Mazzara: "We
want to remove any of the
past stigma from these
new programs and we are
' emphasizing the positive -
real communication, and
trying to minimize the
drug - connected activities
of the group. We want to
discourage from the outset
any attempts to make our
facilities and our
programs another teen
hangout."
It was revealed that the
new group, which has no
formal name at present, is
prepared to hire trained
personnel for counselling
and referral services in
both the drug and alcohol
areas.
The reorganization
meeting is set for Thursday,
October 12 at 8 P.M.
in the Faculty Room of the
Bethpage Senior High
School. An open invitation
to representatives from
other community groups
as well as the general
public is included in the
meeting announcement.
Concluded Mrs. Mazzara:
"You might say this is a
second ehanee* for Bethpage
to field a responsible
program in this area.
We're hoping for real
response and if it doesn't
come; we'll" "Shelve this
concept permanently."

The net making demon-^

virtues of patent medicine at
various village locations.

puppet shows will occur at 11:45
a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
According to Recreation and
Parks Commission Richard A.
Fitch, "Friday is an ideal day to
visit the fair. The displays of
foodstuffs, sewing and other
skills along with livestock and the
special events have been
scheduled on that day so that.
residents may have the opportunity
to enjoy the .fair in a
relaxed atmosphere."
The Old Bethpage village
restoration is located off Round
Swamp Road in Old Bethpage.
